Over our 8 weeks in NZ we spent about 3 of them all up in Takapuna, Auckland – a beachside suburb in Aotearoa’s big smoke. Ally grew up around there so the kids got bored of the number of times she said “Look – there’s my old primary school!”
It provided a marvellous city base from which to see friends and family, get adventurous with kid friendly activities, partake in great local food, even hit the Auckland museum. We loved it – especially beach walks, pool swims and Rangitoto views.

Re-introduction to the joys of skiing via Auckland’s Snowplanet and a friendly instructor, Oliver.

Auckland Museum – whistlestop tour – volcanoes, moas and photography.

As always, one of the best bits of visiting NZ was catching up with treasured friends and their cherubs 😙

Takapuna beach has grey sand, the occasional outpouring of sewage and is overly populated with fur-legged friends but still has this wild, rugged and inspiring seashore charm. Following the earthy rainbowed cliffs at the southern end of the beach at low tide is a must do ramble.
