May Daze

May was a “Full English” experience. Many moments of bucket list business and friend and family frolics, interspersed with normal days of pottering around the spring green of Bushey, playing tennis, cooking meals, doing lessons, jumping and swinging down granny and grandpa’s stairs.

The McLernons came to town and we learnt with them how to open and close a canal lock, before ‘bon voyage-ing’ them back Downunder.

Building a swing and cubby set with grandpa, high ropes coursing and making and exploding volcanoes was all part of the joy of being in one spot for a while. A couple of sunny London days out with friends: Ali Duncan and daughter Emily at Aldenham Country Park. Then to see Tristan, Kaye and Django via Camden Market – haloumi fries were delicious!- followed by homemade pizza and a stroll through a packed out Hampstead Heath.

A family day out at the model village of Bekonscot, perhaps the definition itseif of English  eccentricity?

Max and Anya had loved an outstanding local production of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Nights’s Dream last year so being in London was a perfect opportunity  to take us all along to The Globe. Twelfth Night was showing, and satisfyingly funny (but Max did think Townsville’s Shakespeare offering were just as good!) A roll along the Southbank afterward, past the Golden Hinde, Southwark Cathedral, and the Shard ended with positive sibling vibes whilst dining next to the Thames.

A big night out for Max was the long awaited proper English football match, chanting and language warning AND at Wembley no less. Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle: 1-0.
